LCD Soundsystem has announced a 2026 world tour, their first sustained touring since the American Dream cycle ended in 2018. James Murphy confirmed the news alongside a statement that the band has been working on material for a follow-up album, though no release date has been given and no details about the new music have been shared.

LCD Soundsystem’s touring history has been defined by high-profile conclusions and unexpected continuations. The 2011 Madison Square Garden farewell show was filmed, released as a concert film, and treated as a genuine ending. Four years later, the band reformed. The American Dream album in 2017 was their first new material in seven years and was received as one of the better late-career records by any act of their generation.

Murphy has been consistent about maintaining the quality of what LCD Soundsystem releases and performs, which has meant long gaps between activity. The 2026 tour announcement is the first confirmation in several years that the band is actively working and intends to perform.

Live, LCD Soundsystem is one of the more reliable experiences in rock music of the last two decades. The shows are long, the energy is genuine, and the catalog has enough depth that setlists can vary significantly without running short. The 2026 dates will be watched closely by anyone who has been waiting for them.

What excites me about a new LCD Soundsystem record is the way Murphy constructs tension between the electronic and the human. Sound of Silver worked because it was meticulous but still breathed , you could hear the decisions, the room, the imperfection. American Dream was great but leaned more controlled. I’m curious which direction a 2026 album goes. The live band chemistry they’ve been building since the comeback makes me hopeful it lands somewhere warm.
